How is a Criminal Check is done in India ?
There is no centralized public access to police records, so a comprehensive nationwide search is not possible at all. India has Police Departments of various states and metros. Each State has its own system of functioning. The Police Head Operations of the States/Metros have different regulations and fee structures and different procedures.
Note:
Beware of any agency who claims to have conducted a search at any District Court or High Court for criminal record. There are no searchable records available at any district court of any state in India. Moreover any High Court in India is supposed to undertake APPELLATE jurisdiction only as far as criminal cases are concerned.
Databases to be searched either, which makes the verifying criminal records extremely difficult.
